On the Diffraction Limit for Lensless Imaging
نویسنده
چکیده
Oakland, MD 21550 The diffraction limit for lensless imaging, defined as the sharpest possible point image obtainable with a pinhole aperture, is analyzed and compared to the corresponding limit for imaging with lenses by means of theoretical considerations and numerical computations using the FresnelLommel diffraction theory for circular apertures. The numerical result (u = p) obtained for the best configuration parameter u which defines the optical setup is consistent with the quarter-wave criterion, and is the same as the value reported in a classical paper by Petzval but smaller than the value (u = 1.8p) found by Lord Rayleigh. The smallest discernible detail (pixel) in a composite image is defined by an expression found by Rayleigh on applying the half-wave criterion and is shown to be consistent with the Sparrow criterion of resolution. The numerical values of other measures of image size are reported and compared to equivalent parameters of the Fraunhofer-Airy profile that governs imaging with lenses.

High-resolution X-ray lensless imaging by differential holographic encoding.
We demonstrate in the soft x-ray regime a novel technique for high-resolution lensless imaging based on differential holographic encoding. We have achieved superior resolution over x-ray Fourier transform holography while maintaining the signal-to-noise ratio and algorithmic simplicity. We obtain a resolution of 16 nm by synthesizing images in the Fourier domain from a single diffraction patter...

We present the first experimental demonstration of lensless diffractive imaging using coherent soft x rays generated by a tabletop soft-x-ray source. A 29 nm high harmonic beam illuminates an object, and the subsequent diffraction is collected on an x-ray CCD camera. High dynamic range diffraction patterns are obtained by taking multiple exposures while blocking small-angle diffraction using be...
متن کاملLensless diffractive imaging with ultra-broadband table-top sources: from infrared to extreme-ultraviolet wavelengths
Lensless imaging is an approach to microscopy in which a high-resolution image of an object is reconstructed from one or more measured diffraction patterns, providing a solution in situations where the use of imaging optics is not possible. However, current lensless imaging methods are typically limited by the need for a light source with a narrow, stable and accurately known spectrum. We have ...
متن کاملA scheme for lensless X-ray microscopy combining coherent diffraction imaging and differential corner holography.
We successfully use the corners of a common silicon nitride supporting window in lensless X-ray microscopy as extended references in differential holography to obtain a real space hologram of the illuminated object. Moreover, we combine this method with the iterative phasing techniques of coherent diffraction imaging to enhance the spatial resolution on the reconstructed object, and overcome th...
متن کاملScalable approach for lensless imaging at x-ray wavelengths
We demonstrate a versatile approach to perform lensless imaging at x-ray wavelength. A special design of a sample holder allows recovery of the low spatial frequency information of the sample from the Patterson map of the measured diffraction. As a result, the phase can be reconstructed from an oversampled x-ray diffraction pattern alone, eliminating the need to resort to a low-resolution image...
